First 350 Miles Down!
About 13,000 more to go!
To prepare for my trip, I started working out 3-4 times a week - circuit training, and yoga. I wanted my back and core to be as strong as possible for all the driving ahead. I've been feeling great! Well, damn it, last week I did something to my back so I've been in pain for a week. I have to tell you that the thought of driving even 10 miles was daunting but I got massage, went to the chiropractor twice and even saw my back doctor so that I could hit the road as scheduled. It was enough relief that I was able to hit the road yesterday and made it to my first stop in the Poconos. The last hour was a bit painful but my mantra was "Suck it up!" with the Rolling Stones melody running through my head.
I spend one more night here before heading to Pittsburgh in the morning. Stretching, foam rolling and resting will be in order to prepare for my next drive.
I don't think it has quite hit me yet that this journey has begun. I think, when I get to Kentucky on Sunday, that the reality of this trip will start to sink in because it will be the first stop of somewhere I haven't been before. Bourbon, horse country, Mammoth Cave and Louisville - fun things to look forward to.
Laissez le bon temps rouler!

So happy that you were able to start this journey as planned! Can't wait to read all about it. Stay safe. Bon Voyage!!

ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were able to start and you knew when your back told you when to pull over. You're right, it will be the Appalachian Mountains or maybe Pittsburgh will be when your brain gets it that you've begun your journey. Safe travels.
