New Orleans - deuxième partie!

Our second day in New Orleans was wonderful! We got up early to beat the heat and we walked and walked all over the Garden District for a few hours. Just this area of New Orleans alone makes me love this city. Prepare yourselves for the multitude of photos I took!

The green pathways provided both shade and beauty.

The see the faces in the trees, like soldiers guarding the people of New Orleans.

We ended up on Magazine Street where we stopped for some beignets and a little shopping before schlepping back to Creole Gardens and some cooling off before dressing up for lunch at Commander's Palace.
This restaurant is considered one of the best in NOLA and I'm glad I made a reservation ahead of time. The place was hopping! There's a dress code so we enjoyed getting dolled up a bit for a mother/daughter lunch. One thing we noticed, since it's off season here, there's plenty of parking everywhere so we decided to drive and avoid the sweatiness.

We were seated in a lovely room and offered $0.25 martinis. Yup, not a typo...25 cents!! Limit of 3. 3! I'd be on my ass!! Of course we each got a martini because...why the hell not!

We had such a lovely meal of turtle soup, gumbo, a creole tostada and crawfish tails. All amazingly delicious. Feeling well fed and relaxed from our lunch martini, we made our way across the street to the Lafayette Cemetery, No. 1, the oldest of the seven municipal cemeteries in New Orleans. It is a non-segregated, non-denominational cemetery with 25 different countries and 26 states represented in those buried here.

The tombs are above ground with paths winding across the cemetery that takes up an entire block. I love how the plants are taking over creating an ethereal beauty.

What a beautiful place to finish up our afternoon. I highly recommend walking through this cemetery if you are ever in New Orleans.  It is so representative of what New Orleans is all about...history, diversity and beauty.
