Carlsbad Caverns (after a really, really LONG ride across Texas)
Driving from Austin to Carlsbad Caverns wasn't too bad (some mesas and more flat land) until I got to Pecos, Texas. DAMN, that 2 hours of my life was like hell on Earth. That is some ugly ass part of the United States. (Sorry if I offend any Texans out there). I can't even imagine living in west Texas. It is barren, dry, flat and filled with oil derricks and white trucks. Yikes!
So, this was my drive. It took me about 8 hours to get to Carlsbad and then another 2.5 hours to El Paso from there. But Carlsbad is one of the best pitstops I have ever made when doing a long drive.

Carlsbad Caverns is in southern New Mexico in the Chihuahuan Desert. It has over 100 caves with these amazing stalagmites and stalactites. I can't even believe how amazing this place is! It is way in the middle of no where and I still can't believe some schlub found this place. I hope my photos do it justice.
Of course it's in the desert so I had to add a photo of some cacti.
When you go on a tour, you take an elevator about 750 feet down to the waiting area until the ranger begins the tour.
This is where we begin. Now, I took a bunch of photos to show you the rock formations but you have to understand how MASSIVE this place is and how big these formations are. They are several stories high!
The shot above was one of my favorite formations. The light is able to shine through a sheet of rock and the rock to the right looks like a broomstick.
The sheets were my favorite! How can rock form like that?! Glorious!!
These sheets look like wings!
This photo is of a pool of green water that is reflecting the rocks above. Love this beyond words!
I have loved so much of my trip so far but driving to this desolate part of the country was so worth it.
So cool!!!
